“Beware of False Teachers” • 2nd Peter 2:1-3 - Elder Bryce Lowrance
Just as there were false prophets speaking at the same time as God’s true prophets in the time of the Old Testament, there are many false teachers parading around today claiming to speak the word of God but are actually speaking heresy and doctrines of devils. 
Peter devotes this entire chapter to commenting on the same subject our Savior spoke on in Matthew, Chapter 7. Those that are fooled by false teachers follow the broad way and bring destruction in their lives. Peter reminds us of the dangers of false teachers, and to focus on making our calling election sure by keeping the Bible as our only rule of faith and practice.

“A More Sure Word of Prophecy” • 2nd Peter 1:16-21 - Elder Bryce Lowrance
The Bible is not a bunch of man-made stories and myths. It is a collection of writings by men who were spoken to by God. God told them what to write and they faithfully carried out that duty. Peter argues that what he and the other Apostles teach is true because God spoke to them on the Mount of Transfiguration. Peter uses this as proof of his authority to speak but also argues that he, and we, have a more sure word to guide us. That is because everything in the Old Testament points toward Christ, and everything in the New Testament shows that Jesus is God’s Son and our victorious Savior.

"Peter's Retirement Plan" • 2nd Peter 1:12-15 - Elder Bryce Lowrance
The preaching of the gospel is not like a regular job and should not be viewed as such. Part of the calling to preach is an understanding that it is a life-long pursuit and servitude. Peter understood this and not only never stopped preaching, he wrote two epistles so that the gospel he loved and taught would continue long after his martyrdom.
"Abram and Lot" • Genesis 13 - Brother Jonah Lowrance
When Abram and Lot came out of Egypt their servants got in continual arguments because the land was too small to provide for the flocks and herds of both men. Abram chooses to make a decision by faith and allow Lord to choose the potion of land that he would take. God then blessed Abram and reminded him of His promise to him. On the other hand, Lot chose with earthly thinking and his righteous soul was vexed with the sins of the land he found so beautiful to his natural eyes.

We have been given eternal life and called to use that life in God’s service. When we walk by faith and live in charity toward one another then we are more assured of our part in the covenant of grace. And not only this, we find ourselves walking actively in the kingdom of Jesus Christ.

Brother Jonah explained how the patriarchal Abraham underwent a trial of faith which he failed. From fear of famine, Abram went into Egypt and lied about his covenant relationship with Sarah his wife. However, even though Abraham was unfaithful, God remained faithful and showed mercy.

Brother Jonah began the story of Abraham whom the Apostle Paul calls the father of us all, speaking of believers, because he is premier Biblical example of faith. The Apostle Paul teaches in Hebrews 11 that Abraham's example begins at the very start of his story when he is called by God to sojourn in the land of Canaan.

In this introductory message on 2nd Peter we discover Peter’s emphasis on God working in us through faith so that we are able to undestand believe the Bible. Our growth in grace depends greatly on our increasing knowledge of Who Jesus is what He has done.

In the closing verses of Peter’s first letter Peter encourages us to focus our lives, as the elect of God, on living with fellow elect children in a local church. We are saved solely by grace, and it is by grace that we are able to live in an ever-increasingly hostile world. Our best friends in the church or our membership are there to travel through the joys and sorrows of life together.

Peter begins drawing his letter to a close by once again reminding us that, even though we suffer for a short time in this lief, God has called us to glorify Him forever and ever. That means we WILL be with Him as He has predestined. So, while we live here we can trust Him as good Father to have grace on us for today.
