Brother Jonah Lowrance considers the introduction in the gospel account of Luke, the writer’s background, and Luke’s audience. Brother Jonah goes on to explain that we should take heed to verse four’s statement “That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.” He goes on to look at the statements in the Bible concerning God’s word, how the Apostle Peter’s example instructs us that God’s word should be valued above our own experiences. He adds that, if we love God, we should be diligent today to study God’s word, also looking to help others that love God to understand more about Him, too.
Elder Bryce Lowrance continues to preach concerning the reliability of scripture. He begins in 1 John 5:13 concerning the hope given to those “that believe on the name of the Son of God,” adding that the first verses of the epistle tell us about the Son of God. He exhorts us to remember those truths about God, as well. He then turns to the truth about man and our depravity, going all the way back to Genesis to look at how His word was first twisted and the result of lies about and additions to God’s word. Finally, he reminds us that the doctrine of total depravity isn’t the end of the story and that God’s word also contains promises of the new birth, God’s grace, and the hope we can have in Him today.
